Music Millennium

It might have been 1980, I’m not so sure, when my cousin took me to Music Millennium for the first time. We stepped into the inner belly and feasted our eyes on what seemed like acres of colorful records and soon heard the sound of, “we were at the beach, everybody had matching towels, somebody went under the dock and there they saw a rock, it wasn’t a rock-  it was a rock lobster!”

I remember being out of breath telling my mom about this magical place, where new and fascinating music fell from the ceiling, where people smiled while keeping time with a record store- head-bob. There was no limit to the amount of time you could cash sauntering down aisles of carefully crafted songs, made tangible at our fingertips through the magic of vinyl, then cassette, and then CDs. Touching and listening and looking was and is the Music Millennium experience.
